HongYi is a partner of Rohamat & Ling. Prior to setting up the firm, he served the Government of Malaysia as Federal Counsel between 2007 and 2010.  He was posted in the International Affairs Division of the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) in Putrajaya. His principal areas of practice as Federal Counsel are focused on Drafting and Vetting of International Agreements, Treaties, Memorandums, and advising the Government of Malaysia on International Law and International Human Rights Law. He also represented the Government of Malaysia in attending various overseas as well as local meetings including seminars and conferences. HongYi then started practising in Mr Ong Ban Chai & Co. in Johor Bahru between 2010 and 2012.  He was heavily involved in taking part of the firm’s general litigation and insolvency litigation. Despite the short span, HongYi has acted for clients across a diversified range of industries and has advised clients on issues relating to Company Law, Family Law, Commercial Law, Banking Law and many other areas of law.

HongYi had also previously served the Government of Malaysia as Federal Counsel between 2007 and 2010. His clientele mainly includes the Honourable Ministers, His Excellency Diplomats, Undersecretaries, etc. During the service, HongYi was under supervision by many experienced and knowledgeable Senior Federal Counsels such as the Head of Division, the Honourable Solicitor General and the Honourable Attorney General. He managed to apprehend strong technical skills in drafting agreements and giving opinions.
